SEC opens Pittsburg site office and welcomes new hires


KNOXVILLE, TN   Andrew Lombardo joins Safety and Ecology Corporation (SEC) as the Director of Professional Services/ Corporate CHP and heads up the new Pittsburgh, PA site office. He is supported by senior health physicists who support over 10 new projects brought to SEC through the efforts of the new Pittsburg office.

As Corporate Certified Health Physicist (CHP), Lombardo is responsible for leading SEC’s Health Physics practice including consulting and professional services, laboratory management and providing integration and oversight to projects nationwide. In addition, Andy will provide leadership in business development to support overall growth goals in the health physics industry.

The Pittsburgh office represents a hub for SEC growth in the Northeast US with specific targets focused on the US Army Corps of Engineers and DoD initiatives. These markets are realizing significant growth in support of BRAC initiatives and environmental remediation associated with facility closure missions.

Having been primarily a private client practice in the Pittsburgh office, we can now service government clients in the Northeast as well," said Andrew Lombaro, CHP, SEC’s Director of Professional Services.

Andrew J. Lombardo brings over 26 years of relevant experience to SEC. He has authored many articles within industry publications as well as delivered presentations at conferences. Lombardo is certified in the practice of comprehensive Health Physics by the America Board of Health Physics since 1994. He is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Natural Sciences and attended graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh receiving a MS in Health Physics. Lombardo is a member of the American Nuclear Society, American Academy of Health Physics, National Health Physics Society, Secretary of the Western PA chapter of Health Physics Society and Chairperson of the Health Physics Society Working Group to revise ANSI Standard N13.42, Internal Dosimetry for Mixed Fission and Activation Products.

Ellen Jakub, assistant program manager, joins SEC with over 10 years of experience in industrial environment performing process and quality control functions. She has also worked in the consulting field dealing with radiological site issues. Her experience includes licensing, decommissioning, remediation oversight and inspection activities for licensees of the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission and various agreements states. Ms. Jakub has performed design and operations of industrial and municipal waste water treatment systems, design and cost comparisons of ground water treatment systems and conducted various research projects. She received her B.S., (Summa Cum Laude) Environmental Protection Science from Point Park College in Pittsburgh, PA. In addition, Ms. Jakub has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), Air and Waste Management Association (AWMA) and Health and Physics Society (HPS).

Anita Mucha, project manager, brings more than 20 years of technical and managerial experience in health physics including radiological engineering and project management at a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) licensed facility. She has significant experience in regulatory audit and compliance, dose modeling, dosimetry and management of radiation protection programs. Ms. Mucha is a registered technologist by the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists. She has an M.S. degree in Health Physics and a B.S. in Biology both from the University of Pittsburgh. Ms. Mucha has serves as a project manager for a state department of environmental protection implementing new and progressive radioactivity monitoring requirements at solid waste transfer and disposal facilities.
