SEC Awarded $14M Contract at FMSS

More than a Decade of Continuous Success Leads to Award of Re-bid Contract

Knoxville, Tennessee - August 31, 2009, Safety and Ecology Corporation (SEC) was awarded a $14 million subcontract for health physics and on-site laboratory support services at the FUSRAP Maywood Superfund Site (FMSS) from Shaw’s Environmental & Infrastructure Group (Shaw). Since 1999, SEC has successfully performed environmental services for Shaw in support of the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) at the Maywood, NJ site.

"SEC is excited about continuing our support to the USACE and EPA Region 2 mission in providing these highly technical environmental services,” said Christopher Leichtweis, SEC CEO. The Maywood Site has been one of our signature projects dating back to 1996 under the previous Prime Contractor when FUSRAP was still regulated under the Department of Energy (DOE) and SEC appreciates the opportunity in supporting this site for four more years."

In June 2009, the FMSS procurement was competitively re-bid. With work under this new contract to begin on September 1, 2009, the delivery order with a maximum capacity of more than $14 million was awarded to SEC for a one year base period through September 30, 2010, and three option years taking the contract end date through September 2013. SEC’s scope of work includes radiological engineering and health physics support for soil remediation activities on multiple sites in Bergen County, NJ.

The SEC Maywood staff members, along with the entire Project Team, were recent recipients of USACE Commander’s Certificate of Appreciation in attaining a dramatic Safety Milestone of 1 Million Safe Work hours on the Maywood Project. “Our staff at Maywood possesses a thorough understanding and command of the Maywood Project Site Safety and Health Plan,” said Eric Laning, SEC Program Manager.

SEC has more than 13 years of experience directly related to National FUSRAP Operations. Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) is a program initiated in 1974 to identify, investigate and clean up or control sites that were part of the Nation's early atomic energy and weapons program.
