Knoxville, Tennessee – May 24, 2010 - Safety and Ecology Corp. has scored another Recovery Act contract, this one a subcontract to UT-Battelle (the government's managing contractor at Oak Ridge National Laboratory).

Barbara Penland of ORNL confirmed the award for demolition of the 2000 West Complex buildings (old Quonset hut) at ORNL. The value of the contract is $1.3 million, with work scheduled to be completed by the end of November, Penland said in an e-mail response to questions.

According to the info, SEC will work as a prime subcontractor to UT-Battelle and hire skilled craft personnel as needed from the Knoxville Building and Construction Trades Council.

The work is being performed as a CERCLA Time-Critical Removal Action, she said.

SEC has been a big-time winner in DOE's Recovery Act cleanup efforts in Oak Ridge and elsewhere.

Among the company's Oak Ridge projects: a task order for ORNL hot cell cleanup work with a cap of $50.2 million; D&D of other ORNL facilities ($16.8 million); Demolition of Building 9735 at Y-12 ($760,000); Demolition of Complex 2000 East at ORNL ($1.5 million); work on Biology Buildings at Y-12 ($1.8 million).
