Key Strategic Hire Brings Market Strength

SEC Expands Presence in the CBRNE Marketplace with Addition of Key Senior Hire

KNOXVILLE, TN  Safety and Ecology Corporation (SEC) proudly announces addition of Senior Certified Health Physicist (CHP) Dr. Arthur Desrosiers to enhance SEC’s presence in the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE) market. He will provide leadership in SEC’s professional services business sector regarding the application of digital technologies to enhance the effectiveness of field services. His objective is to boost the value that SEC provides to clients as a means of increasing market share in the radiation detection and health physics industry.

Dr. Desrosiers’ is a health physicist and nuclear engineer whose experience includes environmental monitoring, emergency preparedness, and management of health physics programs, licensing, decontamination and decommissioning. He has a reputation for innovative problem solving and development of radiation monitoring systems that apply digital process controls to improve quality and efficiency. He implemented some of the first automated frisking, access control and remote monitoring radiation detection systems in the nuclear power industry. More recently, he designed surface scanning robots, hand held final status survey instruments, and patented colorimetric detection devices. Dr. Desrosiers is a member of national and international industry improvement groups and standards organizations.

Arthur E. Desrosiers, ScD is a Senior CHP for SEC and will divide his time equally between our core Professional (Health Physics) Services projects/business development and the new Polimatrix system development and projects.

In an interview with Dr. Desrosiers he stated, “This position with SEC is a stimulating opportunity to apply over thirty years experience in decontamination, environmental sciences and instrument technology in developing new products and services with SEC. The challenge of fully integrating the Polimatrix technologies into emergency response and radiation protection is particularly exciting.”

Removing radioactive contamination from buildings and grounds is often significantly less expensive than the health physics monitoring necessary to verify that the clean up is complete. By developing more efficient and more capable survey instruments, SEC has the ability to greatly reduce survey costs and offer more effective decontamination and services. Offering greater value to remediation clients will strengthen SEC’s position in a very competitive market.”

A Harvard University Graduate, Dr. Desrosiers brings more than 37 years of experience. He is certified by the American Board of Health Physics: Comprehensive and Power Reactor. Arthur’s professional activities include the Health Physics Society, American Nuclear Society, member of the ANSI 13.12 writing group and a member of the ANSI 45.92 writing group.

“He has the perfect resume (experience, education and skills) to match this projected role with SEC,” said Director of Professional Services, Andrew Lombardo.

When discussing the strategy and direction for SEC, Arthur responded, “Monitoring is a core activity in radiation protection and environmental monitoring. The health physics industry has continuously improved radiation detection instrumentation by investing in the technology of the physical interaction of radiation with matter. However, today there is an equally profound opportunity to invest in the development of artificial intelligence algorithms for monitoring instruments. The ability of software to improve human performance of monitoring in terms of quality and efficiency has been underrepresented in the past decade. SEC and Polimatrix have the combined ability to offer instrumentation that is more capable and more efficient. These improvements can be applied to measuring decontamination effectiveness, protecting people and environmental monitoring.”

In Dr. Desrosiers’ previous positions he has served in such capacities as a Vice President of special projects for the past 19 years where he among other things was a developer of specialized radiological support services. Arthur has developed programs for off-site dose calculations, pollutant discharge permitting, groundwater monitoring, hazardous waste disposal, and corrosion control. He has also supported radiological engineering, dosimetry, instrumentation and radioactive material shipping.

He has developed a complete emergency preparedness program and a power reactor health physics department within 15 months, including the first industry use of automated access control by radiation workers. Arthur has also developed radiological process monitors for frisking personnel and materials; also providing consulting services in radiation protection, chemistry and radwaste, including the first program for use of automated body friskers as a nuclear power plant. In 1969, Dr. Desrosiers served as a squad leader in the 525th Engineering Platoon in the United States Army.

Dr. Desrosier’s experience enhances the capabilities for the recently merged sister company of SEC. SEC’s sister company Polimatrix Inc., is excited to have the background and expertise of Dr. Desrosiers joining the team. Polimatrix provides state of the art radiological and nuclear materials detection, identification and measurement solutions and joined with SEC’s years of environmental services lends to Arthur’s position adding value to the overall team strategy.

The ability of Polimatrix personal emergency radiation detector to provide rapid radionuclide identification at the scene of an incident has crucial value in directing early response actions. SEC now has a team with the experience and expertise needed to realize this immediate identification capability through systems integration of Polimatrix with the client’s information technology systems. This vital capability increases the value of Polimatrix to emergency response organizations at the local and state levels.
