SEC UK - R. Kerr Newsletter Mention

SEC UK – March 1, 2010 – In an effort to encourage young people to consider the fields of science and engineering, students were given the opportunity to tour the Hunterston 'A' Intermediate Level Waste (ILW) Store, where some of Scotland's most radioactive waste will be stored.

SEC-UK's Radiation Protection Adviser, Bob Kerr was mentioned in the Hunterston site's February 2010 on site publication, in an article entitled "Hunterston A Site encourages next generation of engineers."

Mr. Kerr, was one of the speakers that delivered presentations to the students. Mr. Kerr gave a presentation on radioactivity & radiation protection which set the scene for the next presenter to talk about radioactive waste management at Hunterston A. Presentations provided examples of practical experience of the nuclear industry which students would normally not receive in school.

Additional info for you if required: SEC are currently providing support to Hunterston A site to perform a strategic review of the options involved for the management of the sites' operational intermediate level waste and are actively engaged in the development of Scottish Government policy on the management of higher activity wastes. SEC has also been performing radioactive waste characterisation studies in support of this work at Hunterston 'A'.
